Girls Prep Skills Training & Open Runs}

AT6 former and current players: Danyelle London (Fort Erie Prep), Sienna Papanastasiou-Thomas (J.Addison Prep) & Lexi Wee (Niagara Prep) playing in the 2024 All Canadian Games. The 3 were teammates on our OBLX teams prior to their current prep teams.

Coach Thomas blends technical training techniques he uses with his G-Elite and Orangeville Prep teams and what he has learned from renowned coaches like Phil Handy and Rico Hines. We have a reputation for producing players with a high basketball IQ. The girls will have a chance to build their knowledge of tactical concepts, which is essential to success at a higher level of basketball. We have found that many girls who join our team from other clubs are greatly lacking in general basketball IQ. Too many youth coaches are focused on winning in the moment rather than educating for growth. The on-court training will focus on general skills training techniques, and individual needs will be addressed through personalized, targeted training regimes. Players are welcome to use the time to do their own training should they wish.

The first half of the evening will be skills and technical training. The second half is our "runs". Coach Thomas has taken this format from trainer Rico Hines and his famous summer runs for NBA players. The runs will be more of a streetball format, allowing girls to just ball. Athletes today often suffer from too much coaching and are not given the opportunities to play and develop their own feel for the game.  Our open runs are designed to give players that opportunity, which empowers them to be able to make decisions on the floor independently and quickly.

Players will also get a chance to train and play with one of the top ranked grade 10 female basketball players in Canada (#27 by Canletes). Sienna will be present to help girls with their skills and share what helped her to be accepted to J. Addison prep, playing on their senior team, in grade 8, be named the starting point guard in grade 9 and an OSBA champion, this past season, in grade 10. Sienna is playing her AAU basketball with AGame this summer. A great opportunity for younger players to have this mentorship over the summer. Fun Fact about Sienna: She has beaten Kyle Lowry and Grady Dick in a game of "knockout."
